The first XJTLU-UoL-XJTU Postgraduate Research Joint Conference & 2025 XJTLU Postgraduate Research Symposium took place recently in Suzhou.
The conference was jointly hosted by Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) and the University of Liverpool (UoL), and supported by the Jiangsu-UK World Class University Consortium. It gathered together about 560 doctoral students from nearly 20 renowned universities at home and abroad, who are engaged in 16 research areas, including electrical and electronic engineering, computer science and software engineering, environmental science, biological science, and education.
Themed on “The Journey from Research to Impact--Transformation and Application of Academic Findings into Practical Solutions”, the conference aimed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and academic exchange among postgraduate researchers worldwide. During the three-day event, doctoral students presented their latest research progress and findings through more than 400 academic posters and nearly 300 thematic presentations while having in-depth discussions with experts and fellow researchers.
At the conference, Liu Yajing, a PhD candidate at the HeXie Management Research Center of XJTLU, made a presentation to share her research on elderly parents in China who have lost their only child. She quoted her mentor as saying that pursuing a PhD degree should be more than reading literature and writing papers in an office and it should involve fieldwork and addressing real social issues.
Malika Ben Kahla, a PhD student at UoL, came from the UK to Suzhou for the conference. “My aims and objectives for this conference are to connect with people who are like-minded, want to translate their research into practice, have similar interests and want to work together,” she said.
This is the first time that XJTLU, XJTU and UoL have come together to co-host the postgraduate research conference, which is part of their efforts to strengthen academic ties and promote international collaboration.
